Kathie at Two Frog Home is copying Laurie at ...Slowly she turned in writing until the Saturday morning coffee is gone. It sounded like a good idea, so I'm copying too!
Thursday I was off and up at the crack of dawn to head out to the big-big city. Luckily we didn't really encounter any traffic and made it to the doctor's appointment with enough time to complete a diaper change and go all the way back to the car to get the paperwork I left on the passenger seat. Of course, the baby showed no symptoms of anything - mini DarthVader breathing, so the doctor was confused as to why she was there. We ended up with a blood test and test for cystic fibrosis (not that anyone thinks she has that... but just to check).
Friday I made it all the way to 2nd period before getting a call from the daycare to pick the baby up - fever. Can you believe that? Not even 24 hours after visiting the pulmonologist! We got into the her regular doctor and she was diagnosed with an actual "daycare virus". So far the fever has gone and there's no snot in sight. Also, no ear infection or really heavy breathing.
While at school, I did read the note from the sub on Thursday. Apparently, some students were very, very bad. Luckily this is a sub that A. is used to high school kids and B. subs for us all the time, so has no problem in writing them all up. I swear I do not understand why kids get into pissing contests with the subs. It's not like they're completely unknown. We only have about 12, and my sub Thursday is well known for demanding respect and work. They also know she has no problem writing them up or sending them to ISS. Do they do this just pass along their crappy day to everyone else?
This weekend I'm planning on putting my garden together. The community garden opens at 10 am, so we'll head down to pick out our plot when the baby wakes up. My mother is coming for the weekend, so with the babysitting help, I should be able to get the tomatoes and lettuce in, string up the peas and start the flowers. I also have two lilac bushes from last year that I still haven't planted. It took awhile to figure out where to put them. (I decided they need to be along the back fence to block the view of the back neighbors who may or may not be amateur criminals.)
I wish I had something inspiring to write about school, but it's the last month. We're all just trying to make to the last day without any big problems. The sophomores are still killing Julius Caesar, but they are starting to ask intelligent questions. I even have one student who seems to be able to understand the concrete and thematic details. I have another student who is attempting to read with a british accent. Although he's not very good, it is very entertaining. The Juniors are actually starting to like Catcher in the Rye. Sure, it's mostly because they get say "goddam" in class, but they are reading it. My AP class is in the midst of creating something for the Crucible - we just finished it this week. They had the choice of creating a comic book, a board game or rewriting a scene in a different setting. Most choose to do the board game. When they're finished next week, we'll take a day or two to play the games.
